John David Fitzgerald (1956 to 2026)

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform that John David Fitzgerald passed away on 29th June 2026, aged 70 years.

John was born on 17th March 1956 and was a stalwart supporter of the Old Camdenians. He played football and cricket for the club, which he joined from school.  John was a very good player, he played in defence and took no prisoners!

John Captained the 2nd and 3rd Eleven Old Camdenians’ teams. He supported Arsenal FC. and loved his horse racing.

Together with Martin, Alex and Peter they formed a racing club and had shares in a horse called  ‘Wendigo’ who had a great season last year; they all had a great time seeing it win at Newbury this year. We all went over to Punchestown every year for their racing festival, which is regarded as Ireland’s premier National Hunt horse racing venue, located near Naas in County Kildare. It is famous as the home of Irish jump racing and hosts the annual five-day Punchestown Festival.

John was great at telling stories and he set up the ‘OCFC’ WhatsApp group and arranged an annual meet three times a year. We were all old boys and we would tell funny stories of the old times when we all played together.

John worked in the City, then set up his own company.

John leaves behind his wife Lesley, son Sean, and Amy his daughter; and Paul, John’s brother,  is another Old Camdenian. Our most sincere condolences at this difficult time.

John’s funeral service will be held on Wedneday 19th August 2026, at 12pm, at City of London Crematorium, (Traditional Crematorium) Aldersbrook Road, Manor Park, London, E12 5DQ.
